I still have a noise in the stereo . I tried running a ground wire from the head unit to the battery. That didn't help. I thought this was alternator whine. It turned out not to be. I pulled the belt from the alternator and started the car. The while is still there. All that remains is the ignition system. I had already extended the ground for my MSD 6AL ignition box directly to the engine block. I started a little Internet searching and fell upon a MSD tech forum. It seems that this is a common thing. They had some troubleshooting steps but the one common fix for all of the MSD induced noise was the addition of a noise filter at the ignition box. I ordered the MSD part number recommended (8830). We will see what that does when it arrives.

years & years ago, when FM was 1st appearing in cars, we had to use carbon spark plug wires to cure this annoying symptom. are your wires metal? trouble is, i believe you lose a little oomph at the plugs wit carbon wires.
