Well, I guess that's what it looks like. Basically you are using the test light as a cheap Amp Meter. You are breaking the circuit by removing the battery clamp and then inserting the 12 volt test...
I have always disconnected the battery cable and used a 12 volt test light between the "now removed" battery cable and the "now vacant" battery post. If there is a trickle draw somewhere, the test...
