Thread: I told you so??

    I told you so??

I generally check the forum at least a couple of times a day and a few minutes ago I found a couple of porn spams and the following. I'm posting it here because I assume he wanted everyone to read it:

    I told you so
See ...this forum is going down the tube and so is this club..I read this every day and nothing is new and now you got a porn link site...just great...john h

    My response:

    John,

I have deleted your post because it is in the wrong section of the forum. The classifieds section is for just that...classifieds. We have set things up so unregistered users can post ads in the classifed section ONLY. That way people don't have to go through the registration process to post an ad that might be of benefit to the club. And yes...it does occasionally get spammed. I delete these as quickly as possible and move on. Getting spammed is just a way of life on the internet and if you or anyone else can come up with a way to get rid of it totally, once and for all, you'll be richer than Bill Gates.

I'm sorry you think the club is going down the tube. Perhaps you're not really a person who sees much of a benefit to a club? You've always said you wouldn't pay the $20/year to join the FCA so that rules you out as a paying member with the Rainier Chapter.

Anyways, there are lots of ways to make a club successful and I can tell you that posting negative comments isn't one of them. This isn't the first time either. When the list was via email, I think more then a few us us really didn't appreciate your constant negativity. You're welcome to reply anytime but you'll have to register like everyone else, post in the appropriate section and be willing to have a civil discussion on how to make the club better and stronger.

No hard feelings John. I've put a lot of my personal time and money into this club since I returned to Seattle over 3 years ago and I'm doing the best I can. I have work and other commitments that fill my spare time so that doesn't leave too much time put towards the club but I try to devote a few hours a week to it. Sorry that's not enough for you but you're welcome to get involved and show us what you've got...

Kenny...I just joined the forum a short time back and can't speak to if the club is "going downhill" or not but.....I do know when I went to the Ford Picnic (my first time) I found a very nice group of falcon folks that invited me to park with them....had some very nice conversations and enjoyed the time I was there. I haven't joined the club (yet) given that I live in Buckley and it might be difficult to participate very much.

As far as the forum...yes, I saw the posts that were clearly not someone interested in the falcon cars....given the titles it did not take a lot of brains to figure out what they were...so it was easy to ignore. I knew at some point you would see them and get rid of them. I suspect maintaining something like this on the internet takes much more time than most folks think.....so those of us who want to be critical of how it is being handled should perhaps offer to help in some form?

It is probably the same with the club....takes a lot of work I suspect....

Just keep it up and do the best you can.....recognizing that you also have a job and family.

    Thanks
    Hal

Thanks Hal. I don't think the group is going downhill at all. There's a core group of 4 or 5 people who are trying to get it going but we really need a few more members who want to step up and take on a project or two.

The Bellevue show was great fun and a wonderful turnout. It was good to meet you and all the others who showed up with their Falcons or stopped by to say hello.

So yea, we'll just keep pecking away at it. I don't think I'll be quitting my job or getting a divorce anytime soon so I can devote my full attention to the club. I'll just do the best I can do and things will eventually come together.

    Bill,

I really appreciate your patience. I'm in it for the long haul myself. It's great to see new faces when we get together. So, thanks to you too and stay tuned!

I think there is a desire in all of us to see the club grow and grow and grow, but it takes commitment and never negativity to see that happen. We're all "volunteers" here and I can speak for myself when I say I sometimes wonder whether I bite off more than I can chew sometimes. I know I do. I want to help grow a local club where everyone can participate and help each other, but let's face it, we're all busy with life. We can't always be there at every meeting and show. That's OK. I still see a lot of Falcons at some of the shows. Ford Picnic was a great example. Bottom line is you gotta put your money where your mouth is and get involved. If you can't invest $25 a year to join a club, you're not going to invest more than an hour elsewhere either. Plain and simple. I'm speaking to everyone, not just John here. That said, I know I'm way late on doing my part, and it irritates me. The fact that it does means I'm involved. Otherwise I'd say it doesn't matter. OK, stepping down from my soapbox....

What a joke. If John thinks the club is going downhill, why the heck is he lurking on the forum? One of the lessons in life is if you're not enjoying something, stop it and do something else better with your time. Either way, go do something else and don't ruin it for the ones who ARE enjoying it!

PS - Kenny, I wouldn't recommend getting a divorce and quiting your job. Being single and unemployed is not all it's cracked up to be ;O)

I do admit I've been pretty slack about organizing events/meetings this year but I'm glad there's beginning to be some good communication through this forum. I think the club will always go through some slow periods but I'm in it for the long haul and hopefully some new members will want to be involved and help out.

I've just proofread the newsletter that Roger has put together and it should be getting mailed soon. Let's keep doing our best, keep up the chat, and keep a good attitude. That will go a long way...

I just wanted to voice my opinion if I may. I wish I lived closer to you all so I could meet you guys in person. I appreciate the info on this forum and I know that I am not a member of the club (since I am over 500 miles south) but I wish I were. I think that everyone who has been putting in time and energy on this project needs kudos. This website is informative and helpful and most of all down to earth and honest and that is what I like the most of all. Hopefully someday I will make it up there in person to a meet so I can finally see your cars and faces for the first time but until then, keep up the good work and thanks again for all the great info and advice.

    Kenny,

As I keep 'splainen to my wife those porn sites just pop up out of nowhere.
and you are doing a fine job, (regardless of what some think) I haven't been posting a whole lot lately but I still enjoy the chatter. I am coming along quite well wth my '65 Futura and would post some pictures if I could figure out how. I am not exactly computer literate. We fired her up last weekend and let her run at 2 grand for about 20 minutes to break in the cam. We buried the tach at 7 and could have went to 9 grand easy. The motor sounds real strong, no leaks no vibration. We are guessing around 400 HP. (that may be a little over zealous) Have the rewire complete and everything works. Can't wait to run it on the street. Still have a lot of finish work to do however. If someone can fill me in on how to post pictures now I can share my baby with you all.

    Jerry,

When you are creating a new thread or posting a reply, you should see a section below the editor box called "Manage Attachments". That is how photos are uploaded and attached to messages. Give it a try.

I'll tell you *this*... Sorry I've been so inactive lately. Not only did we have a baby boy 3 months ago but it was preceded by a series of events including a relatively serious motorcycle accident (mine), a wedding (mine, again) and a host of other things!

I won't be making Tacoma tomorrow but will definitely be at the Shanty for the Rockabilly Bawl in September.

Currently Lady Bird is on the road and happy. She ate a second flex plate unfortunately but that has since been resolved. I have a linkage issue that is currently held together with safety wire (that's safe, right?) and I need to figure out eventually. The 66 Econoline SuperVan has a nice leak in the tranny that is getting sorted out on Monday - all old cars will be on the road and happy soon!

Now I just need to fix my wife's motorcycle... its the one I wrecked!
