    Wiper removal...the dumbest question yet??

Ok, maybe I'll get the award for dumbest question yet...but here goes-
I'm trying to take the wipers off (late at night all THREE times), trying to do it without gouging them up. I've removed the obvious nut on the outside where they mount and the assembly is nice and loose there...it seems like they should just pull off now...but they don't. I've tried to gently pry them off with a large flat blade screw driver- no luck. Don't see anything in the manual. Are they likely just stuck? (so..soak in wd40 and try again?) or am I missing a secret pin or something?

You need to move the wiper are away from the windshield like you would on a modern car when you wash it. While holding the arm away from the glass you need to pull straight up on the base of the wiper arm and it will come off the shaft that you took the nut off of. I would tighten the nut back down first.
Did that make sense? If not I will try to think of a better way to explain it.

Mostly makes sense...except the part about tightening the nut back down first. Tighten it all the way back down? So that means the nut has nothing to do with the wiper arm removal?

That is correct the nut holds the wiper linkage assemblies from falling into the car. The blade assembly is separate. Should have just a splined shaft left poking out when you are done.

So the arm is just pressed on?
I knew it had to be something simple-stupid

    Thanks

Not pressed more pushed. The arm holds it on when it lays flat.

Here is one way at about minute 6:30.

It isn't how I do it, but it should show you how you kind of lift up on the back. I don't use any tools.

Replace nut. That holds the under dash linkage in place. Pull the very small clip from under the wiper arm where it meets the pivot and it "should" slide off. You'll have to take the tension off the arm when you lift it off. It's not hard. The first one will take a while. The next will take two minutes.

Thanks everyone...I got it. It was stuck on pretty good because when they did the yellow paint job years ago...they painted right over the posts that the wipers are mounted on-then they put the wipers over the posts. I think the paint was used like glue....the little clips seems to be non-functioning now, but it looks like it should all still work fine when I get to putting it back on.

It always amazes me that someone wouldn't take 30 seconds and 2 cents worth of tape to mask off something that should be before painting!
