I am in the final stages of a once again working van. I finished up the electrical tonight, what a nightmare. I had to chase down some wires that lead me nowhere as well as find ones that were buried in the dash.
I took Pat's idea of getting a hold of another battery box to put the Ignition and starter solenoid electrics in. Instead of a battery box I got a 50cal Ammo case from the surplus store on 1st Ave, painted it black, and lined it with eDead. I then used a piece of sheet metal so generously donated by Jeff and cut/bent a platform for everything to mount to so it would be easy to pull out and service. I made a disconnect out of a simple trailer wiring kit so the MSD, noise suppressor, and solenoid could be completely removed for service. All of this effort was to avoid mounting it all in the doghouse as it is from the factory.
I had to build a new wire harness for all of the connections on the motor as well as another one for the Alternator/voltage regulator. Not only was this to accommodate the upgraded distributor, ignition, and electric choke but also to get the wiring out of the doghouse. I used all new primary wire from StoneWay (Many colors available there and in bulk).
For the most part I kept taking two steps forward and one step back. I took this extra time to double-triple check the wiring as I was putting it together as some of the diagrams have conflicting information. Below is a link to the quick video I shot showing the first turn of the motor. I didn't try to start it as it was quite late. The battery tender is on for the night getting ready for some action packed engine firing tomorrow.
