Thread: Replace carb?

    Replace carb?

So my 62 has a Holley 1940, which I assume is a replacement. I assume it had a 1909 on it? Is it worth finding a correct carb? The othe down side is all the fuel and vacuum lines are hacked with pieces of rubber on the ends.

Problem might be, since it is a newer "replacement" carb it doesn't have the spark control valve. Most didn't, but some did. If it isn't there, then the timing advance (which is vacuum based only back then) will be all wrong. Dogged performance. This is the thing you are looking for.

Note: This is a 1940 I rebuilt for a guy in California who had a 1940 lacking this circuit. And note, the carb is not machined to put on on it if it's missing.

I saw the video of this running. Did you just roll with the carburetor you had as-is?

Yes. If it aint’t broke... runs great. Now if I can get it to shift...

Well, technically it is, but as mentioned previously - it will run. If you were here in Seattle I've got a couple 'more correct' carburetors for it, but if you're just happy as it is, that's understandable. I drove my wagon (at the time) with the same carburetor as you have for a long time, but finally swapped it for the correct one. Here's a thread about the carb you have and the replacement carb I built to replace it - which I still have, by the way... sitting in a box awaiting some future home.
