I know most of the cars here wouldn't know what to do with one, but wondering if anyone has a diagnostic reader? I have a 97 GM (I know, I know) running rough throwing codes I would like to know. If not perhaps a recommended model to pick up?

Mine may read GM too. I don't know. I'm not sure what they use. I bought it to read the codes from my 94 Aerostar back in the day. OBD-2 rings a bell. Maybe somebody who's have newer cars longer than I can comment.
BUT - any Orielly's will let you use their code reader I think.

OBD-II is exactly right (96 and later). I see a pile of them on Amazon from $20 and up based on the features you want. I have a 5 page list of the codes and descriptions so perhaps I only need a generic reader. I will check with O'Reiley's. Thanks

I have one and will give it to you when I get home. If you need it sooner call me on the cell and I can have Janice let you in - somewhere in my red toolbox.
No emergency, and much appreciated as always.

I also have one if Jeff's doesn't work out. Auto Xray 4000.

Thanks Pat. Turns out Jeff has a pretty good reader with a PC interface, pulled the codes last night and it was what I suspected: O2 sensor failures.
