    Engine Swap

In trying to put a 200 ci engine into our 63 station wagon (to replace the 170), the mechanic has run into a problem. I'm not sure if I fully understand it, but it sounds like some part of the steering mechanism is interfering with the oil pan on the 200 ci engine. As a solution he put the oil pan from the 170 onto the 200, but it won't fit because the oil pump hangs down too low. Does anyone know what oil pump / pickup combination needs to be used to allow a 170 oil pan on a 200? Thanks for all your earlier advice and guidance, and any help you might have in solving this. The 200 engine came out of a 1978 Mercury Zephyr, if that's important at all. Kelly

    Kelly,

I doubt it's the pump that's too low -- it's likely the pick-up tube on the pump. Chances are you need to use the same pickup tube from the 170 as well as the pan. Otherwise I'll have to track down my 6-cylinder book to see if there is anything else different. Don't think there is though.

Thanks for the advice, I'll pass it on to the mechanic.
