Flex Plate Nuts on a 170 Engine
I'm trying to pull the flexplate off the back of a 170 CID engine. The nuts that are holding it on won't budge though. I've tried all kinds of PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench and a big breaker bar with a cheater pipe attached to it. Any chance these nuts are reverse threaded or something?
Thanks for any info! -Andrew |

Flex Plate Nuts on a 170 Engine
Not seeing much response from anyone on here, so I went to google and looked up this problem. You are not alone for sure. I know my son who is a mechanic has said to use a strong impact gun with 6 point impact sockets.
If that doesn't work, try going to google and look at the many responses on this. One even used the socket, breaker bar, pipe and a floor jack to really put pressure on the nuts. Worked for him. Sorry Andrew that I am not more help. Larry

Thanks for the info Larry. Good to know that I'm not alone in my struggle.
I'll keep at it. Haven't tried an impact wrench. But I might be borrowing my friend's impact this weekend! thanks, Andrew |

Hey! Good news....I got that pesky flex plate off my old engine.
The secret weapon I used was some Kroil. Works way better than Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster. I also had the help of the biggest cheater bar I could find too. ![]() Thanks! -Andrew |
