new 200 engine with original 2 speed trans?

    Hello,

I have a 61 that has a blown 170 engine in it. I was thinking of upgrading the engine to a 200 out of a 64 Falcon, but was curious if it would still bolt up okay to the old 2 speed Fordomatic transmission? Also I would probably pull the old trans and have it rebuilt before installling the new 200 engine.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    thanks,
    Andrew

They did make dual bolt pattern 200's beginning in '66. My 65 wagon 200 only has the small bolt pattern - leaving it stuck in the pre-66 zone for transmissions (I've never seriously research any adapter). I'm not sure how long they made the dual bolt pattern 200, but it or a 65 200 would accept your transmission.

Rebuilding the 2-speed will be tough though. Not many transmission shops want to touch them (I've heard). You might be way ahead of the game doing a 200/C4 swap.
