    67 trunk help

    hey all
    have a 67 futura and the torsion bar in the trunk is snapped
    can I just get some rod the same size and bend another ie is it a normal steel or what do I need
    I cant duck down to a recycler and grab one s/h as I am in Australia ( got to improvise) any advice appreiated

    I've never come across a broken tension bar but I'm sure you would have to find a special spring steel rod to make one and that could be difficult. Normal steel would never snap back to it's original position.

    They've been used for many years so if you get desperate, you might go to the recycler and see if you can find one from another year/make/model of car that has the same diameter rod and you might be able to bend into the shape you need. Bending may be easier said than done!

    Otherwise someone here might have a `67 parts car or find an eBay seller who would ship to AU. Until then, you'll have to keep a broom handle cut to the right length in your trunk. I did that for many years with an old car when I didn't have the money to get new hydraulic lifters!
