Wow!! Both of those cars are gorgeous. I really like the red white and blue paint job.

Check out the cat in the lower right hand of the Challenger III photo! Poor little kitty. It was startled by the flash.

Here is the Falcon Challenger III from the side showing its fast back. It had a Fairlane 289 a year before Ford made that engine available for the Falcon. It shows what the Falcon might have become had it not been bypassed by the Mustang. This what the e-bay listing said: "Offered for your consideration Holman/Moody Falcon Challengers I and III. These cars are 90% restored and ready to finish. Eligible for Goodwood vintage racing. Motor parts for (2) 289 motors included. These are the rarest Falcons in the world. Challenger I raced at Sebring with Marvin Panch and Jocko Maggiacomo. Challenger III raced at Nassau with Marvin Panch again at the wheel. Challenger III is all original and Challenger I was rebuilt using all the parts left of it and the parts that were transferred to III were recopied. With Ferrarri GTO's bringing in the millions this would be a great way to run with the big dogs for much less. The winner will have the opportunity to also buy a 1963 Falcon Rally car. This is the only 63 to return to the US. It was campaigned stateside by Curtis Turner."

Challenger 1 raced against Ferraris at Sebring in 1962 with a Fairlane Challenger 260 engine (deliberately detuned with a 221 crank shaft for class placement purposes).

Challenger 1. The hood doors and trunk are fabricated from aluminum and they improved the front aerodynamics.

Look at the "export bracing" that they added to the shock towers on the Challenger 1. Look at how they welded extra steel along the firewall and how they layered an extra layer of steel plate over the shock tower sides and top. That is seriously heavy duty.

The Holman-Moody Challenger I, II, and III

Here is a written explanation of the cars. Click on the thumbnail, sand then click again on the produced picture to make it bigger. Then click it again to magnify it a bit. The article says that the Challenger I Falcon would do 135 mph. In discussing the Rally Falcons, the article concludes: “… it shouldn’t be forgotten that for a brief moment in Ford racing history, the Falcon was a mouse that roared with surprising success.”
